Found 1 Last Fleshwrought! Sunday September 02, 2012 [ ]

While reorganizing the "warehouse" (under my bed), I found a straggling Fleshwrought record that is now back up on the site.

I dropped the prices on Altered Beast and Counting Hallways.

For Altered Beast I have 4 slightly flawed Birthday Cake variations too. I describe the flaw on each one, so make sure to be specific about which one you want if you order one. This is your last chance to get one of the mega-wild, mega-limited screenprint editions!

sprockets-urlrewriter Tuesday May 15, 2012 [ ]

After spending much time looking into the various solutions for serving vendored CSS containing relative urls (with much help from Bibliographic Wilderness, I decided on using the sprockets-urlrewriter preprocessor.

After some adjustments to the regex used to identify and rewrite the CSS urls, there was one other issue.

Although the sprockets-urlrewriter claims to rewrite relative urls to absolute ones, what it really does is rewrites urls relative to itself, to urls relative to the root asset directory.

This means that if the CSS all being compiled into application.css, everything works great. However if in development you are debugging your assets (a default in Rails), each CSS is linked individually. This means that the newly re-written urls are relative to application.css, but referenced in a different css file.

This is still ok if the location of the CSS files you are rewriting the urls for are located in a root asset path, but if they are nested, your new urls dont work anymore.

For example...

.{ background: url(../img/image.png); }

So withOUT the urlrewriter, in development we will get this...

.{ background: url(../img/image.png); }

works great!

in production... not so much...

.{ background: url(../img/image.png); }

This is exactly what the urlrewriter is for! Now productions works.

.{ background: url(folderone/img/image.png); }

since the new url is relative to /assets, the image path is fine. but now in development...

.{ background: url(folder

Everything is NEW! Tuesday June 28, 2011 [ ]

After about 6 months of tirelessly programming, the NEW Man Alive! site is finally presentable!

I even dug through all our storage and brought back missing inventory! I even found some screen printed Altered Beasts!

Of course i have to pitch the new Fleshwrought record (which has been unavailable while the site was down). All our inventory is running low since the "warehouse" is my tiny bedroom.

PLEASE!! if you have purchased any of our vinyl in the past, click on those records and LEAVE A COMMENT! It would really help us out!

Also, if you run into any weird errors, or bugs, behavior, confusion, etc... there is a Contact link in the upper right. OR you can email us at

Explore around. There are a LOT of cool new features and more coming. Working on a mobile site next.

Anyway, thanks to those who support Man Alive, and to those who will. We ain't much, but we aim to please :)

-Brewster @ Man Alive!
